Historical Background:

Pears are from the apples group, with the scientific name of Pyrus.communis, and from the Rosaceae family. Pear tree is one of the fruit trees that show resistance or tolerance to unfavorable environmental conditions. Pears can be grown in very cold to warmer plains.

 The pear plant is more resistant to heat than apples. The pear tree also has significant resistance to severe winter colds but is more sensitive to cold than the apple tree.

Due to the relative desirability of pear cultivation in terms of orchard management and diversity in the country, there is much potential for cultivating, growing and exporting this crop to world markets in our country. The major pear producing regions of the world lie between the northern and southern latitudes of 30 to 60 degrees.

 

Major Pear Producer Provinces:

Khorasan Razavi, Alborz, Tehran, Isfahan, East Azarbaijan and Zazvin provinces, respectively, produce 26, 11, 14, 9.6, 8, 7 and 6%, accounted for 76% of the total pear production in Iran.

 

Pear Production Rate:

The amount of pear production in the country in 1396 is 204833 tons, and the yield of pear orchards in the country is 12987 kg/ha.

 

Area Under Cultivation:

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture in 2017, the area under cultivation of pear orchards in the country was 20,146 hectares, of which 16,387 hectares of apple cultivated area of ​​the country occupies the second to seventh place.

 

Target Countries of Export Markets:

Iraq, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, India, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain,…

 

Production Rate:

The country's apple production is about 3.71 million tons, the largest production, which makes 28.5% of the country's apple production, belongs to West Azerbaijan Province.

 

Area Under Cultivation:

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture in 2017, the area under cultivation of apple orchards in the country was 247,000 hectares, 87.7% of which was cultivated by fertile trees and 12.3% by apple trees. Of the 217,000 hectares of fertile apple trees in the country, 99.67% of it is irrigated and the rest is rainfed.

 

 

Global Production Rank:


Iran ranks fourth in terms of pear production after China, the US and Poland.

 


Export Rate:

In the years 2017 and 2018, 626.8 and 425 tons of apple worth: 267 and 229 thousand dollars were exported to the target countries.
